I am Quynh Anh from Ms.Hoa Toeic. And today I hope that you have fun learning english with me. I still remember that in one video lesson that Ms. Hoa has instructed you how to do speaking in TOEIC part 1 – how to read a text aloud. So what we are going to do to day? We are going to learn some skills and techniques to describe a picture. Personally, I think it is very important in your daily life as well as ats work. So, let’s see what I have prepared for you in the lesson today.

I hope you like it and even if you don’t like it, you have to. First I have a question. How do you feel? What can you see form the picture? Can you give me some suggestions.

• Yes, you are right. This is a picture taken where…
• Yes at an air port. Very nice.

How many people do you see? Can you count? 1,2,3. There are there people in the picture.

Is it enough if we just describe a picture and give the information of a place or the number of people? I don’t think so. You need to go a little more detailed into the picture in order to get a good score in TOEIC speaking exam. But you need some techniques and skills in order to do that. Don’t worry? Because that is all what we are going to do today.

• To provide you with techniques and skills. So let’s get started. There are 4 steps.

Where was the picture taken? So you have the answer for this picture? It was taken at an airport. The second question is also the second step that you need to follow in other to describe this picture successfully.

What do you think is the most impressive to you from the picture? So you can see that the people are big in the picture. They take most part of the picture so this should be the thing that most impresses you. So, we can say there are three people in the picture. Is that enough task that question again. No, of course not. We need to go further, dig deeper in the picture.

Let’s take a look on the left hand side of ther picture. What do you see? Here will be some techniques for you so that you wont forget any details in the picture. So you can see that on the left hand side of the picture. You see what? You see a man but what is he doing?

That’s the most important thing you need remember. He is doing something so you need to give a verb to describe what he is doing. Maybe, he is looking at some documents. And, on the right hand side of the picture. Again, what do you see?

Yes you are right. You see two women. What are they doing? There are two women and they are doing different things. One woman seems to be checking the documents of the man. And the other woman is looking at what the other people are doing. So you can see their picture again. There’s an looking at his documents or he is taking out some document to handle them to the woman in the blue outfit. And the woman in the blue outfit is checking the man’s documents.

You agree with me. She is a little bit old. You can add some features. The old woman is looking at the man and the woman in the blue outfit. I hope hat you now have the general idea of how to describe a picture. It’s not just about the genera things like the location or the number of people.

You need to go into details as what people are doing. Don’t worry about a thing because we are going to listen to a model answer. Then you will understand deeply what you have to do in order to describe successfully a picture. Are you ready for the listening?

Both of them are looking at the flight attendant and waiting to pass through the counter. I can see other people in the background of the picture. It looks like it is the holiday season because the airport is.

• What can you see first in this picture?
• Describe the right/ left side and background of the picture in detail.
• How do you feel about the picture?

So, we have gone through 4 steps and the model answer. I think you maybe a little bored because just you and me learning English.

Hello everone! My name is Carol. I’m a student from Ms.Hoa Toeic.

Actually, she is my student so I am nervous and proud at the same time. So, we may be learned to day how to describe a picture.

Here is the challenge for you. A picture. Can you describe it for me and for all friends show are watching us right now?

Ok, the picture is taken in a meeting room. There is some people sitting around a table. On the left side of the picture, there is a man. He is wearing a white T-shirt and fit a tie. On the right side, a man is sitting between two woman. In font of the picture, there is some water and is front of each people, there is a glasses of water. In the background, there is man. He is pointing at a paper and he is presenting something. In the background of the picture, there is some widows and trees. And look at the picture, I think they are… at a formal. Look at the picture, I think they are in a formal meeting.

Yes, very good Carol. Congratulation! You have overcome my challenge, which is not very difficult. How are you feeling right now?

First, you have covered the 4 steps of toeic speaking. First, you tell us the location of the picture: in a meeting room. You cover all the parts of the picture: the background, the front, the left and right side of the picture, which is really good. Let’s talk about pronounciation. How do you think? It’s not bad. I must say. You have the terminal sounds when you talk. You care about the terminal sounds, which is really good. And you guys, if you want to speak english, don’t forget the terminal sounds as well. About the pronunciation, I don,t have any bad comments. About the grammar… Generally, it is good. However, I have some comments in order to help you to improve your speaking more and more. First, you said: “The picture is taken…” You use passive in the present form. However, the picture was already taken. So, I prefer you would say…”was”. And you also say: “There is some people around the table”.

• Oh, I forgot it.
• So how can you correct it?
• There are some people

“There are some people sitting around the table”. One more little point, you describe “a man sitting between two women” but you say “woman”. Yeah, so remember that. Don’t worry! It is small mistake and you can correct it and be better. You also say: “There is glasses in front of…”. “There is glasses of water …” But I mean “There is only one glass of water in front of each person” So we should say: “ There is a glass of water in front of each person.”
